1886

  • Licence granted 23 December 1886

1887

  • Planning permission granted for the construction of a dedicated power plant in Buochs delivering direct current; operating approval granted 1888, with construction of the railway undertaken by the Bell Company. Inauguration 8 July 1888
  • Federal Office of Transport (FOT) two carriages each accommodating 40 passengers, rack braking system, velocity 1 m/s, power 50 HP

1910

  • Station building replaced, route widened, drive mechanism strengthened by the von Roll Company, new electric motor, carriages replaced, new calliper brakes
  • Power 72 HP, velocity 1.6 m/s, new cable drive wheels, two 80-passenger carriages + one attendant

1928

  • Drive mechanism strengthened by the von Roll Company, new electric motor, new carriages, new chassis
  • Velocity 2.5 m/s, alternating current, two 80-passenger carriages + one attendant, automatic trip brake

1948

  • Overhaul by the von Roll Company
  • Velocity 2.5 m/s

1959

  • Chassis improved
  • New wheelsets with speed regulators designed to cut in at 4 m/s

1980

  • Motor brakes overhauled, new electric motor, automatic control, new closed-circuit TV monitoring system
  • Drive and safety brakes v = 3 m/s, Ward Leonard motor generator set with Valeotron controls; convertor: 3 x 500 V, 1470 rpm, 160 kW, 226 A; generator: 470 VDC, 303 A, 42.2 kW; drive motor: 470 VDC, 130 kW, 800 rpm, gears: Maag Zurich 750 / 90 rpm

1984

  • Funicular cable replaced by the von Roll Company

1996

  • Power supply now provided by Elekrizitätswerk Nidwalden (EWN)
  • Dedicated power plant sold off

2002

  • Chassis overhaul by the Doppelmayr Company, new Hählen carriage superstructures, new safety controls (Frey AG), new closed-circuit TV monitoring system (Frey AG), Ward Leonard upgraded to 400 VAC by EWN
  • Complete chassis overhaul at the Thun works, velocity 3 m/s, Hählen superstructures, Uetendorf programmable PSS Pilz safety controls, remote control monitoring by means of track conductor, convertor motor 4 x 400 VAC
