Famous throughout the world, the highest point of the Bürgenberg is the Hammetschwand, which is also the highest point of the City of Lucerne. A pleasant stroll takes you along the Rock-face Path to the Hammetschwand Lift, which whisks you up to the mountain restaurant at alt. 1132 m – a great place for a hearty breakfast accompanied by a spectacular panorama.
Take the vintage Bürgenstock funicular railway down to Kehrsiten for the lake crossing to Vitznau and its half-hour rack railway journey (Europe's oldest) up the "Queen of the Mountains", Mount Rigi. The return journey can be made via Weggis and the aerial cable car.
You can also take the Bürgenstock funicular railway, then the boat to Alpnachstad where the world's steepest rack railway will bring you up Mount Pilatus whilst you enjoy the breathtaking views. On the way back you can visit Lucerne before returning by boat to the Bürgenstock Resort®.
