It all began with two men who, one day, decided they would single-mindedly pursue their dreams. Between 1873 and 1904, Franz Josef Bucher and Josef Durrer erected hotels on the shoulders of the Bürgenberg – halfway between the heavens and the waters of the lake. Well-to-do patrons flocked to the Bürgenstock from all corners of the world to witness the technical wonders of the funicular railway and the Hammetschwand Lift – Europe's highest outdoor lift.
Change is the only constant - something that can be said of the Bürgenstock Resort®.
The Park Hotel closed for business on 11 December 2011 to make way for a new development - due to emerge between then and 2014 is an unparalleled resort.
As work on the resort proceeds, the following will continue to welcome guests and visitors:
The investment volume for the new Bürgenstock Resort® is 300 million Swiss francs. About 33 million francs have already been used for planning and realization work. The first stage is scheduled for completion in 2012. The whole project is due to be completed by the end of 2014. The result will be a car-free resort with 400 rooms, 60 residence suites with hotel service and an extensive range of recreation facilities and activities. The project is creating 350 new jobs.
The concept for the new Bürgenstock Resort® is based on five pillars:
1. Waldhotel / “Medical Wellness”
2. Congresses, conferences and banquets
3. Hotel pearls with unique spa facilities
4. Residence suites with hotel service
5. Local tourism – a mountain open to everyone
